Drums, bagpipes and winter masks come together at Palladium RÄ«ga on Wednesday, 16 December 2026. Auļi will play their winter-solstice album Ķekatās in full for the first time, with guest singers joining the band. It’s a chance to make Latvian music part of a December visit and to hear how a rhythm can gather a whole room around it.

🄁 Hear Ķekatās as a full concert

The album won a Zelta Mikrofons award in 2022 in the folk or world music category. Individual pieces have appeared in the band’s shows, but this concert brings the album together as one programme. Singers Asnate Rancāne, KatrÄ«na Dimanta and Beāte Zviedre join Auļi, with cello and other instruments adding to the drums and bagpipes.

Listen first for the pulse underneath the bagpipe line. When a voice enters, notice whether you begin to follow the tune or stay with the beat. The band is known for its instrumental sound, while this programme also makes space for songs. The organisers say the words will appear on a screen for people who want to sing along.

šŸŽ Bring a touch of winter masking

Auļi invite the audience to come in traditional ķekatu masks or to add mask elements to an evening outfit. That gives you a small way to take part before the first note. You could bring a mask detail from home or use the invitation as a reason to look at Latvian craft during your stay.

The seller lists the event language as Latvian and recommends it from age six. Use the ticket page to check the conditions for your group.

šŸŒ† Give the evening a little room

Have a meal before heading to Palladium and save the Pērses iela entrance in your map app. If you are in Riga for several days, leave another afternoon for the Christmas market on Dome Square. You can enjoy the city’s December atmosphere without fitting every stop around a concert clock.

šŸ›ļø Stay for a Riga music break

Make the concert one evening of your trip and leave time for the city around it. Find a MIRO Rooms apartment for your visit.
