At the top of the Latvian National Museum of Art, Laimdota Malle’s STARDUST offers a reason to slow down. The exhibition is about what happens when materials and structures take shape, break apart and form again. It runs from 28 November 2026 to 21 February 2027 in the museum’s fifth-floor Cupola Hall. A visit fits into a winter afternoon in central Riga, with Esplanāde Park right outside.

🔍 Take time to look at one form
Malle’s starting point is the way a form can hold together for a while and then become something else. You can bring that idea into the room with you. Pick a work that catches your eye and notice what you read first. It might be the shape as a whole, the edge of one part, or the space around it. When the room allows, change where you stand and see what comes forward from a different angle.
Give the room your attention before deciding what else to see. If you want to spend longer in the building, the museum explains which tickets include the permanent collection and the temporary shows in its visitor FAQ.
🕰️ Hours and getting to the Cupola Hall
The museum normally opens 10:00–18:00 Tuesday to Thursday, 10:00–20:00 Friday and 10:00–17:00 Saturday and Sunday. It closes on Mondays. The ticket office closes 30 minutes before the museum. If you’re in Riga for the holidays, the museum lists closures on 24–26 December, 31 December and 1 January. Check the museum’s current hours before setting out.
From the Esplanāde Park side there is a street-level entrance. The museum describes lift and platform lift access on its accessibility page. Its visual guide shows the Cupola Hall and flags the low wooden structures in the room.
☕ An afternoon by Esplanāde
On a clear day, walk through Esplanāde before heading inside. Look back at the museum from the park before going up to the top floor. On a wet day, make the exhibition the main stop and leave time for a coffee afterwards. Friday’s later closing gives you room to go after a day out elsewhere in Riga.
If you’re putting together a winter city break around the exhibition, find a MIRO Rooms apartment for your stay.
