Alberta Street rewards a slow walk. Curving lines, plants, faces and sculpted details invite you to keep looking up. At number 12, the Riga Art Nouveau Museum offers the next part of that experience: a chance to step inside and see how the same love of design shaped an apartment.
This is a good choice for visitors who enjoy interiors, beautiful everyday objects and a quieter cultural afternoon. The restored rooms give Riga’s architecture a human scale, with a digital exhibition adding another way to explore the city’s Art Nouveau story.

🏛️ From a façade to a place to live
The building dates from 1903 and was designed by Konstantīns Pēkšēns together with Eižens Laube. Pēkšēns himself lived and worked here. The museum’s apartment was carefully studied and restored in 2008–2009 to bring back its early twentieth-century interiors.
For a visitor, the pleasure lies in changing the way you look. Outside, the architecture is part of a street. Inside, design becomes something more intimate: the arrangement of rooms, a window, a piece of furniture and the objects chosen for an ordinary day.
You do not need to arrive knowing the names of every decorative style. Begin with what catches your attention, then look for the small details that make the rooms feel connected.

🌼 Let the details set the pace
The restored apartment brings together decorative ceilings, wall painting, furniture, tableware and other period objects. Floral motifs make a particularly natural starting point: notice how a line or shape can travel from architecture into decoration and something made to be used.
Rather than treating every room as another photograph to collect, choose a few details to remember. Compare the atmosphere of a reception room with a more private space, or look at how an everyday object balances usefulness with ornament.
This is also a pleasant museum to discuss afterwards. Each person can choose a favourite object or a room they would borrow an idea from. The conversation does not need a correct answer to make the visit memorable.
🖥️ Add the digital exhibition
The museum combines the apartment interiors with a modern digital exhibition about Riga’s Art Nouveau architecture, design and everyday life. The two parts offer different ways into the subject: one through spaces and objects, the other through explanation and interaction.
Choose a ticket that matches what you want to see. If the museum is the main cultural stop of your afternoon, the full-exposition option gives you both sides of the visit without having to make the decision again at each section.
🎟️ Tickets change with the season
The museum publishes separate summer and winter prices. For the entire exposition, its current ticket table lists:
| Season | Adult | Pupil, student or pensioner |
|---|---|---|
| 1 October–30 April | €5 | €3 |
| 1 May–30 September | €9 | €5 |
There are also separate interior-only and digital-exhibition tickets. Guided tours and a photo pass have their own listed charges; the current photo pass is €2. Consult the official table for eligibility, group arrangements and the option you actually intend to use.

♿ Plan the entrance that works for you
The museum describes a lifting platform in its courtyard for visitors who need it. It asks visitors to contact the ticket desk or call +371 67181464 to arrange its use.
If access arrangements matter to your visit, make that conversation part of the plan rather than leaving it until arrival. The museum can explain the route and the practical details for your particular needs.
☕ Make an afternoon of Alberta Street
A simple itinerary works well here: begin with the museum, continue with a short architecture walk and finish with a café you like the look of. That gives you time to enjoy both the interiors and the street without turning the afternoon into a checklist.
Our Alberta Street architecture guide offers another introduction to the neighbourhood. Let the museum be the main appointment and keep the rest flexible, especially if the weather suggests a shorter walk.
