July gives Riga room to breathe. A gallery visit can become a long lunch, an afternoon in a park can lead to an outdoor concert, and the evening need not end when the sun begins to soften. It is a month for choosing one good event and letting the city fill the spaces around it.
The July 2026 selection brings together a jazz-and-opera collaboration, an international art fair, a large choral concert and smaller performances beyond the Old Town. Add exhibitions that continue through summer, and a short visit can feel varied without becoming a race between attractions.

🎨 Art and summer discoveries
🎨 Riga Contemporary at Hanzas Perons
When: 2–5 July.
Where: Hanzas Perons, Hanzas iela 16A.
The second edition of the contemporary art fair brings galleries and artists together in a former railway warehouse. The appeal for a visitor is breadth: a single stop can introduce different approaches to painting, sculpture and contemporary practice.
Leave time to look rather than trying to understand every work immediately. Hanzas Perons also provides a useful reason to explore the city beyond its medieval streets: industrial spaces are an important part of Riga’s current cultural life.

🖼️ Contemporary Drawings: a Centre Pompidou collaboration
When: Opens 25 July.
Where: Latvian National Museum of Art, Jaņa Rozentāla laukums 1.
Works from Florence and Daniel Guerlain’s donation and gifts to Centre Pompidou arrive in Riga. The exhibition opens on 25 July and continues until 1 November, making it a late-July option for visitors interested in drawing and works on paper.

💍 Spectrum: Beautiful Nature
When: Continuing in July.
Where: Museum of Decorative Arts and Design, Skārņu iela 10.
Contemporary Latvian jewellery looks to nature for forms, materials and ideas. This continuing exhibition rewards a close look and makes a compact Old Town stop. Pair it with a café break rather than trying to turn every museum visit into a full-day commitment.

🗿 Lidó Rico: The Revelation
When: Continuing through July.
Where: Art Museum RIGA BOURSE, Doma laukums 6.
The Spanish artist’s contemporary sculpture meets the museum’s historical interiors and collection. The exhibition runs until 23 August, so July leaves plenty of room to include it in an Old Town afternoon. The contrast between building and artwork is part of the attraction.

🎶 Music for a July city break
🎷 Rīgas Ritmi: Italian Opera Meets Jazz
When: 3 July, 19:00.
Where: Chekhov Theatre, Kaļķu iela 16.
Claron McFadden and pianist Mike del Ferro join Sinfonietta Rīga, conducted by Normunds Šnē, for a programme connecting opera with jazz. It is an inviting starting point for travellers who enjoy melody but do not want their evening confined to one musical category.
The Old Town setting makes the practical side easy: plan an early dinner, walk to the theatre and keep the rest of the evening open. The performance is part of the Rīgas Ritmi festival programme; use its individual date when building your itinerary.

🎤 Manai Dzimtenei: a Latvian song celebration
When: 11 July, 20:00.
Where: Mežaparks Great Bandstand.
Latvian choral culture takes the large outdoor stage at Mežaparks for this musical celebration. For international guests, the experience is as much about the shared sound and setting as understanding every lyric.
This is a major concert rather than a casual park performance. Gates are announced for 17:00, well before the 20:00 start, so allow time for the journey and entry. A relaxed afternoon beforehand is a better companion than a tightly packed sightseeing schedule.

🎙️ Senza Fine: Songs Across Time
When: 16 July, 19:00.
Where: Ziemeļblāzma Culture Palace park, Ziemeļblāzmas iela 36.
The Ziemeļblāzma park programme offers a smaller outdoor evening away from the busiest visitor streets. Senza Fine’s concert adds a melodic stop to a summer visit and a reason to see another side of Riga.
Treat it as a neighbourhood outing: enjoy the park before the performance, then leave enough time for the journey back. A venue in Riga can still be well beyond a quick walk from the Old Town.

🎸 Reinis Jaunais & The Flamenco Thief
When: 30 July, 19:00.
Where: Ziemeļblāzma Culture Palace park.
Two travelling guitarists meet in a programme drawing on instrumental music, flamenco influences and looping. It is a fitting late-July choice for listeners who enjoy hearing how a small number of musicians can build a layered sound.
An outdoor performance also changes the pace of the day. Keep the afternoon light, bring an extra layer for the evening and let this be the main outing rather than the last item on an overfilled list.

🌳 Give your July itinerary some space
For an early-July break, combine Riga Contemporary with the jazz performance, then leave a morning for the Old Town. For a later visit, choose the new drawing exhibition or a park concert and build your day around that single appointment.
Large outdoor venues and neighbourhood parks require different travel plans from a theatre in the centre. Check the actual address, entry time and route home; the name Riga on a ticket does not automatically mean walking distance.
🏡 Make yourself at home in Riga
A private apartment gives your city break a comfortable pause between outings. Explore MIRO Rooms Center, Skolas and French, choose the size and facilities that suit your stay, and keep some time free for the discoveries between planned events.
